(By Senators Bowman, Blatnik, Boley, Dittmar,

Wiedebusch, Macnaughtan, Deem, Manchin and Chafin)

Encouraging the division of highways to upgrade routes 2 and 68 from Parkersburg to Chester.

Whereas, Routes 2 and 68 are major north-south thoroughfares; and
Whereas, A feasibility study conducted by Charles L. Miller, secretary of the West Virginia department of transportation, and Fred VanKirk, commissioner of the division of highways, found that 114.07 of the total 132.64 miles of routes 2 and 68 between Parkersburg and Chester are currently inadequate; and
Whereas, Routes 2 and 68 between Parkersburg and Chester should be upgraded to four lanes; and
Whereas, An upgrade of routes 2 and 68 between Parkersburg and Chester would improve economic development in the counties of Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Tyler, Pleasants and Wood; and
Whereas, An upgrade of routes 2 and 68 between Parkersburg and Chester would help to eliminate safety problems that currently exist between Hancock and Wood counties; and
Whereas, An upgrade of routes 2 and 68 between Parkersburg and Chester would create jobs in the counties of Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Tyler, Pleasants and Wood; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the division of highways is hereby encouraged to upgrade routes 2 and 68 between Parkersburg and Chester; and, be it
